DmC Devil May Cry. Review
The Devil May Cry series is to the slasher genre what Street Fighter is to fighting games. Capcom decided to restart the series, and the new part was given to the development of Ninja Theory, and the main character, Dante, appeared in a completely different guise. Which, naturally, became the subject of fierce holiwars. However, the opinion of the fans was poorly listened to, and the dark-haired GG in the alcoholic T-shirt was left, only slightly changing him. And, with a creaking in their hearts, everyone began to wait for the release of the game itself, periodically exchanging fire from a shit launcher. And so, on January 15, the console version of the game was released, and on January 25, the PC version. Personally, not being familiar with the series, I was not looking forward to the new DMC (or, as is now more correct, DmC). However, at the beginning of 2013 there is nothing to play, t. To. the nearest projects that interest me are released only on March 5 (Tomb Raider 2013, SimCity 2013). That’s why my collection has been replenished with a new disc for 470 rubles. And I would like to tell you about the contents of this disc.
The plot of a slasher game usually does not pretend to be anything more than just an explanation of the chaos that is going on. That’s why no one expected anything from the restart in this regard. In vain. The history of Dante’s formation turned out to be extremely interesting. And the game world, full of allusions to the real one, makes you believe in yourself. How much does the Virility plant or the local Raptor News channel cost?. The ending cannot be called expected, although there were hints of it several times. So I really want to see the continuation of the action. The only thing that is incomprehensible is the sometimes extended, sometimes narrowed narrative, when the road to one boss takes 1 location, and to another – as many as 4. Characters are taken not by quantity, but by quality. Each of the heroes, especially the main ones – Dante, Virgil, Kat and Mundus, has his own goal, his own thoughts and points of view, his own truth, which cannot be denied.
The combat system is brilliant in its simplicity. We have 3 types of attacks: normal, angelic and demonic. The first is represented by Dante’s constant companions: the “Rebel” sword and two pistols “Ebony” and “Ivory” (in the Russian version of the game they are called “Black” and “White”, but I like it better). They create attacks that are balanced in both damage and area. The second – a scythe “Osiris”, a whip and huge shurikens “Aquila”. They attack with less damage, but also capture more enemies. The demonic weapons are the “Arbiter” ax, the harpoon (for I can’t think of any other characteristic) and the “Eriks” gloves – the complete opposite of them – strong, but one, sometimes two or three, and the harpoon opposite the whip attracts Dante himself. Of these weapons, as practice shows, one demonic and one angelic will not be used (except for a whip and a harpoon – they are always needed), and pistols are rarely needed. For example, I ran with “Osiris” and “Eriks”, only switching to “Arbiter” in boss battles.
Like other games in the series, the new Devil May Cry has ratings. They are placed at the end of the passage, but during the battle for performing a combo, it is also given a score – from “D” to “SSS”. The last one didn’t work out for me during the fight. There are 3 parameters that influence the final result – style points (on average S for the first passage and SSS for the second), time (average B and SS) and the percentage of complete completion (C and SS) and, that is, things found – keys, doors and souls. For completing rooms, bonuses are given, such as parts of the health cross – 4 parts add maximum health, and for the release of souls they will give red spheres – local currency, which are needed to buy healers, resurrection spheres and other junk. You also need to acquire new skills, which are divided by weapon: each has its own set of perks. Towards the end of the game, Rage Mode is issued, which will be needed exactly once – in the battle with the final boss; at other times you can cope without it.
Enemies, as expected, are divided into regular, https://nonukcasinosites.co.uk/review/black-magic-casino/ reinforced and bosses. And the second is the main and only reason not to call the game simple. In this regard, the Witch and the Dreamer especially stand out. And if there is anyone else with them, at least ordinary minions, feel free to prepare healers, because all your health will be spent during their destruction. And only then will it be possible to do the “cool” ones, which can also cause big problems for players who do not know how to make 5-6-hit combos. With the exception of this aspect, the game is not difficult and can be completed in 9-10 hours, if you delve a little into all sorts of “secrets”, of which there are enough at the levels.
These levels, by the way, are very diverse and don’t get boring. We will have to visit the abandoned estate of the Dante family, and the local Coca-Cola plant, and even under water. The culmination of the developers’ imagination is the battle with the boss-news presenter in the splash screen of these very news, during which we are periodically thrown through the eyes of the enemy into “real” issues in which the protagonist exterminates demons disguised as innocent people.
Overall the picture is pleasing to the eye. Yes, the graphics created by the third Unreal Engine do not have the same capabilities as, for example, the image from Frosbite. But this is not necessary given the talented work of the creators, which, without a doubt, Ninja Theory did. The color scheme changes very often within the same level: for example, having started in yellow colors, we will have time to move to blue, red and even green. The animation is very well done. This especially applies to the facial expressions of the main characters. The faces of the characters differ from each other right down to the movements of their eyebrows.
The soundtrack was provided by the Dutch trio Noisia and the Norwegian group Combichrist. It is impossible not to fall in love with the music they created; I would like to specifically mention the track Sent to destroy, which sounds at the “Club” level. Moreover, the sounds themselves do not particularly stand out in the game; they are very harmoniously woven into the overall process.
In fact, the game was given a “16+” rating not for brutal beatings and swearing, but for this cute, at first glance, scene
Although I played the PC version, I can’t say much about the keyboard controls – I played most of the game with a joystick. But from what I felt, we can say that the control is tolerable in the first case and good in the second. Moreover, when playing on a classic computer device, you do not need to press any buttons to use angelic or demonic weapons. Although you even need to get used to the joystick.
A few more words about localization. She’s not bad, but she’s not particularly great either. All the obscenities that the new DmC abounds in have become common censorship expressions, sometimes even absurd. However, they did not re-voice. For which we thank 1C.
In the end I will say that the British created a new magnificent universe in place of the old one. So I’m really looking forward to DmC 2 from Ninja Theory. For me, the new Devil May Cry is one of the few contenders for my personal “Game of the Year 2013”.
Pros: everything that is not a minus;
Cons: My personal nitpick is the unevenness of the levels and getting used to the controls;
Plot: 9.5/10
Gameplay: 9.3/10
Picture: 10/10
Sound: 10/10
